The performance brand’s continued involvement in the Sprint Cup Series will be expanded to include three Penske Racing entries: 20-time winner Kurt Busch and his No. 2 Miller Lite Charger will be joined by Sam Hornish, Jr. in the No. 77 Mobil 1 Dodge Charger, and now, for his first full season with Penske, Brad Keselowski in the No. 12 Dodge Charger. Dodge President and CEO Ralph Gilles was confident in his boys during the announcement. “The objective is clear,” Gilles declared. “We expect to win races, have drivers in The Chase and compete for the 2010 Sprint Cup Series championship.”
Dodge Racing’s formidable Nationwide Series roster will include Justin Allgaier (‘09 Rookie of the Year winner) in the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Dodge Charger and Brad Keselowski (four-time Nationwide Series event winner) in his No. 22 Discount Tire Dodge Charger. Both Penske teams will be running the complete Nationwide Series schedule. And yes, we’ve heard your vocal requests — the Dodge Challenger will also see some track time during the series, appearing in a number of “New Car” races. NASCAR fans, get ready for a golden year from a reenergized, committed Dodge Motorsports!

I think it’s great that Dodge is giving some additional support to Penske for the Nationwide series but Dodge is still way behind when compared with the competition. Losing RPM to Ford was a terrible thing to allow happen on Dodge’s part. The “King” Richard Petty and fan favorite Kasey Kahne will be hard to replace. BUT, I hope Dodge will realize they’ve made a mistake and AT LEAST offer some support to the independent teams out there running Dodges this year. To name a few that I know of:
Derrike Cope – He’s trying to run most Cup, Nationwide, Truck, and ARCA in Dodges for 2010
Dustin Whitney – Gonna run #46 Dodge Charger in Cup with Terry Cook as driver
Eddie Smith – Gonna run #42 Dodge Charger in Nationwide with Parker Kligerman as driver
McDonald Motorsports – Gonna run #81 Charger in Nationwide with Michael McDowell, driver
C’mon Dodge, since you’re down to ONLY Penske, how about some help for these guys?
It won’t make up for losing the “King” but at least with your help, it might give us Dodge/Nascar fans a few more competitive Chargers/Challengers/Rams to watch and cheer for this year!!!

I’d love to see Kahne back with DODGE in 2011, and it was a sad day when “The King” had to switch to F–d. I can’t see how Kahne can honor his contract with RPM, or how he would even
be obligated to do so. There’s alot of things that changed since he first signed up to drive for them, and I believe in alot of ways they broke their end of the bargan. I agree with leaving the razor salesman behind, because he’s a box of not good, and has caused alot of problems already.
Lets see if we can win the DAYTONA 500!

Well, you know, as mnuch as I hated to see Richard Petty ‘s organization move to Ford, what has Dodge gotten out of it for all the money they’ve dumped down Petty’s throat? I’ll tell you what. Very little. When was the last time a Petty car was in the winners circle? Since joining forces with Everham, Kane has been the only show. He will be missed in a Dodge. But as far as the rest of Petty’s camp, they haven’t done squat! So why keep pumping money into them? Penske is at least producing. Racing for the most part is a waste of money. And money is tight nowaday so getting the most out of it is important.

Richard Petty doesn’t have to do anything! He’s a legend in the sport with 200 Cup wins which is nearly twice as many as the next guy, David Pearson, and more than twice as many wins as everyone except Pearson. He’s a “Hall-of-Famer” and the “King” of Nascar with the respect of every driver in the garage for his accomplishments. If the only thing Richard Petty did was walk around with “DODGE” on his shirt, it would generate more interest in Dodge vehicles than if most other drivers won half of the races in the season. He’s that BIG in the Nascar world! Losing Richard Petty to Ford was a HUGE mistake on Dodge’s part and I wish I new who to blame for that blunder so that I could write him a scathing letter! As a Dodge fan and a Nascar fan, I’m that upset about it! Racing is a waste of money? Then why are so many graphics and stickers on these cars? Why does the U.S. Army sponsor a car; the Air Force; the National Guard? Because they’ve done the “ciphering,” that’s why. They’ve crunched the numbers and carefully calculated that there is a return on money spent in racing, just as there is a return on money spent on TV ads.

Great to see dodge commited to nascar! but i agree dodge needs to step up and help out the small dodge nationwide teams or even the 46 cup car, they are low budget teams but comminted to running dodge, So step up and support k-automotive, McDonald Motorsports, derike cope and the 42 of kligerman, whitney motorsports!! It cant be JUST penske, more nascar teams enjoy and run dodge’s!!!

Roger Penske owns the only team in NASCAR still affiliated with Dodge. But he’s not out just to survive; he thinks the situation instead will help his organization thrive. Penske likes edge Dodge provides, Says his team will benefit as make’s sole representative.
His Penske Racing operation, which consists in 2010 of three full-time Sprint Cup cars and two full-time Nationwide Series cars, is down to being the sole remaining NASCAR organization aligned with Dodge Motorsports. But just when everyone else was looking at this fact as a potential disaster in the making, Penske made them do a double-take.
He insisted that it is “a competitive advantage” for his organization to be the last remaining survivor of NASCAR’s Dodge racing family. His thinking is that now he has to share Dodge’s dollars and technology with absolutely no one.
Plus, Penske pointed out, his best car was pretty darn good a year ago — when the No. 2 Dodge driven by Kurt Busch won Cup races and finished fourth in the standings behind only a trio of Hendrick Motorsports drivers in four-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson, Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon.
“Let’s reflect a little bit on 2009,” Penske said. “I guess we beat all the Fords. I guess we beat all the Toyotas. We just didn’t beat all the Hendrick [cars]. If anybody has an insight on how to do that, I’ll gladly add one more person to our staff at Penske Racing in 2010.”
Meanwhile, Busch said he believes in the wisdom of his boss. He said he has faith that Penske’s “competitive advantage” comment came from the heart and will prove prophetic even as the crowd skeptical of that seems to be growing.
“I understand where Roger’s coming from. It’s a great way to get fired up about a certain piece of our team that is being questioned,” Busch said. “That was a case in point when [crew chief] Pat Tryson was leaving our team last year. Roger sat me down and said, ‘What do you want to do?’ And I said, ‘Roger, I’m here to follow your lead.’ And he said, ‘Well, let’s keep business as usual until we find a point to change.’
“With this Dodge revamp and with us being the only Dodge team, you follow his type of lead and his business ethics and his vision. I like it because it reminds me somewhat of a Formula One-style program, where they have all of their eggs in one basket.
“Can that be good? Will that be bad? I like it because there aren’t going to be any other Dodge teams in the garage that are going to call us out for what we have to NASCAR. That happens all the time. When I was with Ford, there would be other Ford teams that would throw us under the bus faster than any other team — because they knew what was going on. So it’s amazing how things can come back around and hurt you internally. We’re hoping this is a positive all the way around.”
Penske certainly is hoping so, too.
“There is no question that Kurt came alive [in 2009],” Penske said. “Overall, it was a strong season. And the way we finished the season, I think, gives us a lot of momentum going forward.
“To me, when you’ve got a stable of three [Cup] drivers, you’ve got to make sure you’re able to provide the equipment that’s necessary for us to try to get to the winner’s circle. … I think our friends at Dodge will work really hard to help make that happen.”

Thanks HEMIhead, that was a good piece of information. I really hope it pays off. None of us will be able to stand for another Jimmy Johnson or Hendrick car winning again. It will be bad for the sport because only Chevy fans will watch NASCAR.

Hey SUBLIME, I am with ya. I am going to watch and see what happens this year, and if I see it going to the tune of the same old song and dance, I am gonna tune out. Nascar says they are all about parity and discouraging domination, but its been 4 years of it now and all I see them doing is changing the rules so maybe Jr. can win a race. I can guarantee you if it were Dodge doing the dominating they would snuff it quickly, like in the old days. Can you say “Kick-Back?”

Can you say banning the Hemi in the mid 60s and outlawing the Superbird and Daytona in the early 70s. Yes, Dodge could not be beat in NASCAR without rules that penalized it for having a good engineering team. If Bill France drove a Dodge, then things would be different.

Sublime, I agree. I just finised reading “Proving Ground” A History of Dodge,Chrysler,Plymouth Racing. It was stated there that the restrictor plate was created
due to the HEMI, and the Mopar Boys were heavily handicapped because of the whoopin’
they gave Chevy and Ford. They also added weight to the winged cars to slow them down.
If Bill France got the kickbacks from Dodge, things would have been different. But DODGE didn’t need to supply kickback to win. That’s what I love about them. The engineering was brilliant!

Yes, and he applied a lot of what he was taught by the Dodge Boys to every car he drove. He applied a lot of the tricks and basic engineering knowledge that he learned from Dodge to his Chevy’s and look how he dominated. You watch, if Dodge wins the Daytona 500, then NASCAR will confiscate the car for several weeks, take it apart multiple times, and make up some new rule that will prevent Dodge from winning any more. If a Chevy wins then they let them lower the car an inch and remove 100 pounds and tell them good job. I don’t know why I even watch it. Did you see how they are trying new rear deck spoilers because the idiot wings they have now make the cars handle like crap? Just slap a Superbird wing on them and they will handle great. The reverse airplane wing that was on the Superbird is decades ahead of the technology that is involved with the wing they currently have on the COT (car of tomorrow or should I say Crap Of Today).

Nascar has never liked to see Mopars up front. For as long as I can remember, they’ve made whatever rules changes were necessary to keep Mopars in mid-pack. I remember just a few years ago in the (at that time) Craftsman Truck series, the Dodges came out really fast in practice at Daytona. Many of the brand X drivers complained that the racing was going to be the (to quote Rick Crawford, a Ford driver) “Craftsman Dodge Truck series” if they didn’t do something. So 3 rules changes were made; two to slow the Dodges and one to help the other brands. It worked because Rick Crawford won Daytona that year in his Ford, after complaining the loudest about the Dodges being too fast! Rick should have been ashamed to collect that trophy and check!!!

I see the Hendrick boys are already sabotaging the Dodge Boys by allowing Montoya to ram into Kurt Busch’s car in practice today. Kurt’s car was pulling away from the pack, we can’t allow that, can we? Only Chevy is allowed to win a NASCAR championship because more people buy Chevy and it is good for attendance. I’d like to see Jimmy drive the old cars, modified from actual stock. Those things must have been a handful to drive on those tracks. I’d bet he wouldn’t finish a race let alone win a championship. If this is going to be another JJ show, then I am out of watching this year.

I see Kurt Busch is off to a good start this year, two cars destroyed this weekend. Another Hendrick’s car put him out. Kahne’s running up front of course. Not a Dodge in the top 20 so far. I guess I’ll have a lot of free Sundays this year. Once the three Dodge cars are out I can turn the TV off. Dodge, your not giving us fans much to brag about. It will be a miracle if any of those three cars make the chase this year.

Yes, HEMIhead it looks like it will be another NASCAR (National Association Sponsoring Chevys and Rednecks) where Dodge will be outnumbered by Chevys and be bump drafted off the track at every opportunity. Poor Kurt doesn’t have a chance when all of his competitors are bumping him from behind. You can’t win with only one car on the track no matter how good you are. Look at Kasey, second place and they gave him to Ford. Dodge needs to pull out of NASCAR now because there is no way they can win. In this way, they could use the money to redesign their Chargers to emmulate the 69 or 70s and purchase some sublime paint so I can buy a Challenger already. Maybe they will redesign the interior so the steering wheel and dash look a little racier and maybe the seats can be offered in black instead of boring gray. The day got even worse because my wife had to purchase a GMC Acadia because she totaled our Voyager and they don’t make the Durango anymore. She said the Journey just looks cheap and the crosshair grille is ugly. Dodge is doing its best to drive off all of its life long customers. I thought Sergio was going to change things but so far I have seen absolutely nothing. They don’t even have a 2010 car brochure that you can download from their website and the dealers have nothing. They are going to sponsor a commercial on the superbowl and you can’t even get a brochure on the 2010 charger. Very bad business practices. There must be only a handful of people working for Dodge anymore. Toyota is having problems and Dodge doesn’t have any cars available to take advantage of the situation…just like the cash for clunkers. I would fire everyone and start all over.

As much as I’d like to see Dodge do great this year, with only three cars on the track it ain’t going to be easy. Why is it that when teams leave dodge they do great? Lets look at JPM and Chip Ganassi, Michael Waltrip racing, Petty Enterprises. These teams were not even a factor when they were running Dodges. They are running way better now. Kahne will probably have the best season of his career in 2010, if everything holds true to whats happened to the other former teams. I’d have to admit, its probably time to leave Nascar.

Well, I’ve not given up on them yet, but Dodge is in big trouble when it comes to its Nascar effort, I’m afraid. I was watching the Bud Shootout and there were only 2 Dodges in it. Derrike Cope is a “start and park” because of lack of sponsorship and Kurt Busch. Derrike ran a few laps and was done leaving only one Dodge. Then Kurt was wrecked by Mark Martin. There was a lot of racing left but no Dodges to watch. What’s up with that! I’ve already stopped watching the Truck and Nationwide series due to the low number of competitive Dodges. Now it looks like I’ve got little reason to watch the Cup series! I’ll watch and hope for some good results for Penske’s three cars but I’ve noticed that none of the commentators pick Penske cars as race win possibilities because of the lack of Dodges on the track to compare notes with.

I read all of your comments and am really sick of the lame effort Dodge has given to the racing program in general. I have been a fan for many many years and was elated when I found out Dodge was returning to nascar. I was at the truck race at Daytona when f–d was leading with three laps to go Dodge was second, third, fifth and sixth. On the white flag lap all four dodges moved to the top of the track and hooked up together and finished one two three. It was awsome and I can’t tell you how thrilled I was. Then Ward Burton won the 500 in the Catapillar Dodge. When I found out toyota was going to be allowed to run in nascar I couldn’t believe it. I figured that since chevy was running out of money to grease the france family’ palm with, that now that toyota would now take that place and dominate. I am glad that bill davis racing folded as that traitor gave toyota the blueprints to the Dodge engine as they didn’t have a pushrod motor to develop. For his trouble davis got toyota sponsorship.
After toyota got the bugs worked out they started dominating. I guess r hendricks has enough money to buy his way in and keep toyota at bay for now.
I was so happy to see Newman win the Daytona 500 that year because they proclaim this to be ” The great American race”. My headline in the paper Monday morning, if I had been allowed to write it, would have been: Penske Dodges repel Japanese invasion of the great American race.
I would love to punch d. waltrip right in the mouth as he slobers all over that jap crap every time somebody sticks a microphone in his face. I think he forgets that he made his fortune in American iron.
Dodge sponsors a Viper in Drifting. For what. How many people see that waste of rubber and gasoline. They should use the money for something to advertise the brand that give the most bang for the buck.

People don’t understand that even though Toyota and the other foreign automakers have plants in this nation, only about 30% of the profits come back to the US when 80% of the profits come back for all of the Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep built vehicles, even if they are assembled in Mexico. It sickens me to see old people who lived through WWII driving Toyotas with American flags stuck to the windows. They must have alzheimer’s or they are all senile. Traitors and they have been brainwashed by our politicians who have all been bribed by the foreign lobbyists. Sad, very, very sad!

Guys! What is Nascar coming too? They can’t even fix the potholes in the track to run “The Great American Race” They only had 3 months to prepare? Geez it’s getting worse! Next race they’ll probably halt the race to let deer cross the track!
Poor Kurt Busch, the only guy on the track trying to win for Dodge. That’s what happens when you only got 3 cars on the track. When two are out you have no team mates to push you to a win. The odds are against you.
This is never going to work guys, bad idea. He tried his best that’s for sure.
I don’t know what’s going on with people and the Toyota brainwashing. I guess people forget real fast. Someone once said, “What Japan couldn’t do to us in the war, they’ll do to us in the economy.” You can believe that. I guess people don’t care that the money goes back to Japan.
You can blame the government for this mess, for letting foreign companies to come in and take over, with little to no restrictions to save our own economy. They should have heavily opposed the merger of equals between Daimler and Chrysler. Chrysler was in excellent shape before this happened and was the leanest car manufacturer in North American at the time. Why would they need a merger? That’s the first question those stupid politicians should have asked themselves. Daimler raped and destroyed Chrysler, and left them for dead. With no consequences. Chrysler would have made it through 2008 without a loan if it had not been for the germans. It looks good on the government to have to give them a loan. If they hadn’t been so stupid, they could have avoided this mess, and only would have to bail out GM (What’s their excuse?).

Yes HEMIhead, when you only have 3 Dodges out of a field of 43 then the odds are you are going to lose. I am surprised that Kurt did so well. Dodge should just pull out because only Chevys are allowed to win so what is the point. If NASCAR doesn’t favor Chevy, then why is it when Brad K. runs over the pothole with his Dodge and nothing happens. However, when Jimmy Johnson runs over the pothole, we stop the race and try to fix the track. What skill would it have taken to get a couple bags of asphalt from the lumber yard and run it over with a steam roller. Instead they are using quick set epoxy which is not meant to stick to asphalt. This is a redneck sport and that is the last race I will watch. I guarantee you that a Chevy will win the championship this year. Dodge should invest in NHRA instead of NASCAR. If NASCAR rules are set up so you can never win, then pull out and stop making fools of yourself.

If your in it then you’d better be comitted to win, and with only three cars, I wouldn’t call that a comittment. I’d wish they would take that D.W. off the air, he makes me sick. Well, the Daytona 500 yesterday was a good example of how NOT to be involved in Nascar, DODGE! After only 10 laps of The Great American Race, there’s only ONE Dodge left in the race for us Dodge Nascar fans to watch; ONE! AND it’s driven by Kurt Busch, who is not exactly easy to like! I want him to do well because he’s the only competitive Dodge on the track this year but he’s not a popular driver. We go to a lot of the races and the number of people with Kurt Busch shirts on are very few; lot’s of Kasey Kahne, but very few Kurt Busch. Don’t get me wrong Dodge, I want Dodge to be involved in Nascar because it is my favorite sport but this lame effort of a “concerted one-team concept” as Mr. Gilles calls it is NOT going to work! It’s only going to embarass us Dodge fans! In his speech, when he was talking about their new one-team approach in Nascar, Mr. Gilles sounded just like the spin doctors that try to convince us that they’re “improving” our health insurance at work when they are actually raising the price and cutting the benefits!

I am not saying Nascar is great, but the average Joe like myself can actually catch a race on TV and support my favorite brand. It’s really the only racing that gets full TV coverage throughout the year, and the one most watched. So why wouldn’t you spend money on that race tp get some visability? Three cars are not going to do it DODGE!

I agree with robndi43 about the drifting. What the heck is the point in that anyway? I watched it one time on TV and just kept wondering why anyone cared about such a stupid-looking “sport?” And as far as Viper Cup racing is concerned, why would I want to watch Vipers racing other Vipers? What satisfaction is there in that? I want to see Vipers racing Corvettes, Porsche, etc if they’re going to race anything; not other Vipers. That’s like throwing a white flag up and saying, “we can’t compete against the other makes so we’ll just race ourselves!”

Kurt Busch just grabbed the pole at Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 188.719 MPH, his first pole since 2007.
He’s the only DODGE in the top 10 cars in the start line up.

Well, well, well, another day as usually at the NASCAR circus event. Gee, let me guess, who won the race? Jimmy Johnson in a Chevy? Well Mr. France, things are turning out exactly like you wanted it, what a coincidence. I bet IndyRider was pleased with this race. What a waste of money. I will never attend another NASCAR race or even watch one in my life. NASCAR is more rigged than professional wrestling, but at least wrestling is entertaining. Having to stomach Jimmy Johnson winning another race is bad enough, however, having to watch him accept the trophy with that patchy a@@ beard is just too much. Then to witness the pole sitter, Kurt Busch get knocked out by a Chevy and end up in 35th is just unbearable. Dodge, just pay Kurt what you owe him and pull out and stop making a fool of yourself. Everyone knows this gig is rigged so why waste your money. We know you could offer cars that would destroy the Chevys, but they just won’t let you do it. In this way you will have enough extra money to update your cars and offer them in sublime. We have put up with the same old cars at your dealerships for years and we just can’t take it anymore.
When you only have one Dodge that can win and 20+ Chevys waiting to take him out, gee, what do you think will happen all season long? I think it is time for the other two Dodges to take out Jimmy, Jeff, Juan, Kevin, and oldtimer Mark to make things interesting. Don’t you?

Why is the Army sponsoring a NASCAR driver, at the tune of $500,000.00 of tax payers dollars per race, and this year there are 15 sponsored races, down from 25 last year. Millions of dollars being burned up in a gas tank . Are these NASCAR races driving Army Recruits to the Army Recruiters in droves? How do LTG Benjamin Freakley at USAAC and MG Donald M. Campbell, Jr., at U.S. Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), measure the success of these over the top marketing adventures? We need a big red stop sign – stop the over spending on Army Recruiting, abolish the agency, and merge their duties with the Selective Service. Save money instead of burning through it like racing fuel!

Ghostrider1, I think it is a subliminal thing. People keep seeing Army associated with all the things they like, so they join the Army. If the Army likes and promotes racing, then the Army cannot be that bad. Lets join the Army and do our part for our country. They probably have the data as to how many more recruits they have attracted since they started this type of advertising. It would be interesting to see if it is worth all of the money. Its good for racing so who cares.
