2010 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak Kicks Ass, Takes Names |

After the 2009 Challenger Drag Pak enjoyed such a warm welcome from enthusiasts, Mopar elected to kick off the new year by giving hardcore drag racers more of what they love with the 2010 Challenger Drag Pak. Outfitted with a 6.1L HEMI V8 (can be configured for a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission), the 2010 Drag Pak weighs in at roughly 1,000 pounds less than its street-legal counterpart and features enough mods to blow your doors off (on the track, of course).
Essentially a Challenger SRT8 on the juice, the Drag Pak features a composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Viper-style front seats, polycarbonate door windows, a light-weight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack-and-pinion steering, a special cable-operated deck-lid release, special lightweight front-brake assemblies and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.
Although it’s not street legal, the Drag Pak is easy enough to order and can be purchased directly from Mopar through your local Dodge dealership for $39,999.
“We’re proud of our drag racing heritage at Mopar, and we will continue to support our drag-race customers where they compete,” said Pietro Gorlier, President and Chief Executive Officer – Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, Chrysler Group LLC. “The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program was a success last year, and we’ll be carrying that momentum into our 2010 build.”
Full disclosure: as we mentioned briefly above, the Challenger Drag Pak is NOT street legal, which means we won’t accept responsibility for any damages, tickets or jail time you incur when cruising the streets for kids in tuned imports to shame.

Make sure you produce enough of these so everyone can go racing. These are much cheaper than an SRT and a lot lighter. No airbags to worry about. I think I will buy one and slap a VIN number from a totaled 71 Challenger that I have in the backyard. Retro fit the dash and the rest of the interior and no one will ever know.

Are you ever going to make new brochures (even downloadable one’s from your Dodge.com website) for your cars or are you trying to save money and only make them for your trucks? Are you waiting for the new 2011 models where you will have some definitive changes or did you just forget about it? Advertising is how you sell things. I hear songs on the radio that I hate, however, once I hear them over and over again, I finally break down and start to like it and yes I may even buy it. Same with commercials on TV. You keep seeing products advertised over and over again until you finally decide to buy it. Only the crazy loyal mopar fanatics, like myself and the rest of the bloggers who visit this website even know that Challengers are available in plum crazy purple and funky fuchsia. You have to let people know because they will buy!

Marketing has always been Chryslers down fall. Chrysler has the “A” engineers but they get the “C” marketers. Here’s a tip get the guys that do the Budweiser commercials. They have been great commercials over the years. These are the guys that came up with frogs and lizards to sell beer!! And they were great commercials. As a matter a fact you waited in anticipation to see what they were going to say next. Pure genius.

Wish I could enjoy my SRT8 6spd at the track once in a while. Wheel hop is so bad I have to launch like a turtle or lose the drive train. Thanks Dodge for all the burn out marketing and then disregarding poor customer sat due to wheel hop.

The Challenger is the best looking new model of any car!!! When you bring back a name of an older model, you should be able to look at the car and see alot of the old styling. You designers deserver a standing ovation!!! I feel like I was 17 again in my old 1970!!! One question though… Where’s the convertable?????? Please bring her back!!!

These cars are anything but “race ready”, and after you plunk down $40,000 for one, you still have to add:
Roll cage
Wheels and Trire (comes on 4 trailer wheels)
Computer
Wiring
Fuel Pump and fuel lines
Brake Lines
Rear Axle
Rear Brakes
Ring and Pinion
Transmission
Tranny loop
Torque converter, or clutch and Press Plate
Fuel cell
Weight box
Seat Safety harness
Window Net
Headers
Carpet
and lots more…..
So you end up with about a $120K to $150K depending on how much you can do yourself.
Dream if you care to, but to get into one of these is a major effort.
Trust me, I own Drag Pak #24 and have already run world record times with it (dqed for 5 lb too light) and I have already put more than $150K into mine.

David I dont think all that is entirely true of the 2010s. I know they are not complete but the one we just got in has carpet. I am about to put it on ebay now. Bottom line I definately think you need to know what you are getting into. We just got in #5 and it is awesome just to look at and will make a great collection piece or amazing racer like you have done. Either way, way to go Mopar, bringing the “MUSCLE” to the people.
