This Week From The Archives: Viper Makes Its First Strike |
Posted on February 26, 2010
This week from the archives, we’re taking you back to one of the most important moments in Dodge history: the birth of the Viper.
Before the sinister snake hit the production circuit in 1992, it debuted at the 1989 North American International Auto Show as a purely conceptual roadster. At the time of the unveiling, Dodge had no intention of bringing the Viper R/T 10 concept to production, but the immediately favorable response it received from both the media and the public alike quickly changed their minds. Just three short years after its inaugural appearance, the venomous Viper as we know it today hit the streets, kicking off a decades-long reign as king of the American track.

I remember when I saw the First Viper, I was just an apprentice mechanic in a service shop and said “I wanna work on that!!” Shortly after, I got certified & a new job at a Dodge dealership just wanting to take a Viper for a test drive. 20 years later, I’m still waiting for a work-order on a Viper to come up. Good thing they build Challengers & S.R.T.’s now. Hopefully Viper’s will roll again & I get one for a P.D.I….!!!
