HEMI-powered Charger 500 mixes it up in vintage NASCAR action

If there’s one thing we love as much as modern racing, it’s kicking back and watching vintage footage of our favorite childhood cars going at each other around the nation’s tri-ovals. There’s just nothing like seeing heroes like Buddy Baker, Bobby Allison and Bobby Isaac piloting their old-school Dodge Chargers to the front of the pack. The good news: We got our hands on a stack of film from way back in 1969 detailing the triumphs and trials of the wicked Charger 500, and being the givers that we are, we’ve uploaded the whole kit and caboodle to YouTube.

Complete with rocking guitar riffs and a surly voiceover, this is pre-‘70s film making at its best. Watching the quick glimpses into the program back then, it’s amazing to see just how far the sport has evolved from its humble beginnings. Still, we’d give our right arm for one of those minty-fresh 426 ci Hemi V8s.

You know, if history class had been nearly as interesting as the video of those classic Chargers going the distance, we might have paid a little more attention in school. Check out part one here, and keep your eyes open for the next half to hit the web soon.
