No matter how hard you try, you can’t forget your first love. That’s especially true when it comes to Dodge vehicles. We still remember the first time we laid a pair of young eyes on a ’70 Challenger, and our lives haven’t been the same since. We know that most of you have similar stories of love affairs with Dodge vehicles both old and new and we want to hear all about them. User Bruce knows exactly what we’re talking about. His story starts with a 1969 Coronet 440 R/T that he lost long ago. We’ll let him tell the story.
“My first car was a Dodge Coronet R/T with a 440 in Light teal metallic. After pouring every cent I had in the vehicle day after day it was just too expensive for me in the early ‘80s and I put it away for a rainy day, while driving beater cars for the better part of 10 years. A great offer came along to sell the car and the deal was made. Within 2 years I was just not the same and eventually purchased a 1968 Coronet R/T, which I still have, along with a 2009 Dodge Viper ACR.”

The first car that brought me to the Mopar brands was my grandfather’s 1974 Imperial. He was a Mopar guy through and through and as I grew up I remember the 1976 Gran Fury wagon, 1978 Volare, 1982 LeBaron, 1984 New Yorker turbo, 1987 Fifth Ave.
Consequently, my first car was a 1978 Dodge Diplomat 2dr Specialty Hardtop. Sunfire Grey Metallic was a very unique colour, and left an impression on me. All in all, not many options, but it did have the E58 360 CI engine. Some headers, an Edelbrock manifold, cold air intake and it was a driver for many years. Since then I’ve had a 1980 Plymouth Caravelle, 1981 Dodge Mirada, 2005 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Touring, and a 2006 Dodge Durango SLT HEMI. I bought the Durango new and insisted on Mineral Grey Metallic like my first car.
Looking forward to a new 2011 Durango, in you guessed it, Mineral Grey Metallic.

Clean looking car (68 Coronet R/T). There is something about the little touches of chrome that made those cars look tough and like they were made of metal. They had class. The chrome road wheels and redline tires sure look sharp.

My first car was a 1981 Plymouth Caravelle coupe. I purchased it used from a guy
who’s father had bought it new, and had passed on. He said his Dad loved the car and never had
any intentions of ever selling it. It was grey with a red/wine interior.
He only told me it had a V6, and so I took it for a test drive and thought, “Wow! this thing must
have electronic fuel injection” It had awesome throttle response, and idled real throaty, but smooth. When I got back and popped the hood to take a look in the engine bay, Low and behold,
it had a 225 Super Slant Six, 2bbl. Man, was I ever impressed. That was better then a V6!
That engine was awesome. I am not really a hot rod type of person, but before Plymouth was killed by Daimler, I wanted a yellow Prowler really bad, but the price was way out of my league.
I thought they were pretty cool for a production car you could buy. I would have rather they had the Magnum 360 V8. The 5.7 HEMI wasn’t here yet, but that would have been awesome as well. I always bought Plymouth first, then when they were no more, I moved on to Dodge.
But there was a lot of long time Plymouth owners who then went on to other car companies for their next vehicle and never returned.

My first Dodge was a 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona that I bought as a repossession for $3,000. I have been driving Dodges almost ever since. That was in 1970. I am now 65 years old and miss that car something terrible. Of all the cars I have owned, If I could just have one, a Charger Daytona would be it.

I Love your R/T, I had one just like it. Blue, Black Vinyl top, Blue / Black interior, 440, 4 speed, I changed the carb to a Holley 780, Never got out run. My first set of tires lasted about 9000 miles. It would burn the tires off, if you wanted too. I had it at 155 mph more than once. Do you know much about the history of the car are where it came from? I hated to sale the one I had. I bought it new in the fall of 1967 when they became available, I had to sell it in 1972, It was a sad day.
