The SUV is Back! |
Posted on July 14, 2011

Long ago, local race tracks dotted all four corners of the American landscape. They were the fabric of our culture that also included drive-in movies and restaurants. It was on these same tracks that legendary drivers like Richard Petty and Buddy Baker got their first wins. Now, many of these tracks have been abandoned or worse, plowed under for shopping malls, industrial complexes, condos or even golf courses. While rising land values and population growth drove these tracks to their untimely death, the same is not true for our new Durango. You see, we never forgot what the word “Sport” meant in SUV. We made sure to pack it with muscle and technology so you can take on the high banks or the highways with comfort, speed and agility. Our roots are deep in America performance and will be around for a long time. The new Durango TV spots tell it like it is so check out the videos and let us know if you agree. And by the way, there’ll be more hot-lapping Durango spots coming soon so keep watching your side view mirror!

This is a great commercial…keep up the good work!

Linking the term “suv” and dirt track racing? Boy, that’s a stretch.
Dodge sure is throwing the word “muscle” around a lot lately.
I’ll keep watching for the next round of redesigns, and I won’t watching for an suv.

Awesome! Love those commercials.

moparman, what more do you want? They offer a HEMI in the Durango. To me that is putting the sport back in sport utility vehicle (SUV). I know it is not perfect, but it is better than anyone else is doing. I think they used the abandoned dirt track to show the similarity that the competition has abandoned the ‘sport’ in sport utility. It would have been nice to see a red R/T version on the track instead of the beige/brown but that is what most people like who buy one of these things. My wife bought a brown Acadia when Dodge was not making the Durango and there are a million of them that color. Sometimes you have to go with what sells.

More like this, please. Well done.
Where’s the Durango R/T?

Excellent! I have been a loyal follower for 60 years and it was hard for the past few years. My 2004 hemi sport Ram & my restored Mopar muscle cars kept me going until now. It started with the beautiful Ram and now finally you brought back the Durango and not that ugly duckling that did not sell. Keep it up. The new Charger is incredible among with the ever great Challenger. Keep up the great work and the names Dodge and Chrysler will be back on top.

I have just bought the 2011 Durango not only was the buying experience horrible so was the SUV. It went in for lights the day I drove it off the lot. I than had to take it back 2 more times for the same issue which could easily be blamed on the dealership but i notified dodge and filed a complaint and they said they would handle everything. Nope, I did all the chasing and got my car fixed and back home. It ended up taking major braking system parts all before i made the first payment. I will never ever buy dodge agian and they are lucky i am legally bound to this Lemon! Dodge and the dealership have done nothing to make up for this either! Should of kept my Honda

What a great commercial! Why not a SRT-8 Durango?
Jul 18, 2011 @ 19:23:28
bring the thing to australia along with the charger and challenger and take the crap you sell here and burn it i’ll buy two dodges if you do one rt durango one srt charger
Jul 18, 2011 @ 19:23:37
Durangos are cool, but i think the charger or challenger would have been better suited for this commercial.

I wish it looked more like a truck and less like a station wagon

When I first seen the 2011 Durango up close I actually thought it was a jacked up Journey.
It really is a departure from the “Truck” looking models of past, which incidentally I liked better. It still is a nice vehicle, but has been converted to the car/stationwagon look, which has also taken over the Fijord Explorer as well, (yuck!). The commercial is cool, but your ad guys are really drab when it comes to choosing vehicle colors for advertisments. Geez, show something other than that boring grey/silver. Why couldn’t you have shown two different color vehicles racing onto the track, that would have been more eye catching and really mimic two race cars. Nice try though!
