Dodge “Double Down” Funny Car Final in Vegas |
Posted on October 31, 2011
It was an all Dodge Charger Funny Car final at the NHRA Big O Tire Nationals at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway yesterday. Ron Capps in his NAPA sponsored machine had qualified on the pole position on Saturday and then proceeded to blast through the competition. On the other side of the elimination ladder was Johnny Gray who was also taking out some heavy hitters like Melanie Troxel in her Solara and the Ford Mustang of Bob Tasca III.
Capps and Gray would meet each other in the final and even though both cars run out of the Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) camp, it was every driver for himself. Therefore, the crew chiefs had the 7000 horsepower Nitro breathing HEMI® POWERD Chargers on kill mode. When the Christmas tree blinked green, both drivers left hard and in the end it was Capps pulling away with a 4.109 elapsed-time at over 311 MPH.
Current NHRA Funny Car points leader is Matt Hagan driving the Sears DieHard Dodge Charger (also from the DSR stable) and with only one race left in the 2011 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, there’s still time to lay down a bet to see who will be crowned champion.
