its stupid…..yeah lets take a timeless classic muscle car name and insult it to death with a sport compact, and to add insult to injury , lets make it FWD and not offer a V8 option…….you have lost my respect with this one , you could have simply named it Neon and left the name of the Dart unsoiled, but no……you all just had to ruin it…..

It’s far from stupid – for one, the Dart wasn’t a timeless classic muscle car name. It was a family sedan that had a few 2 door models with great engines and 4 speeds, nothing more. And how is FWD and a modern engine an insult to your mullet, exactly?

How much hp will the car have? What main features will it have that will differentiate the Dart from most other small cars? Last but not least when will it go on sale??

Why do y’all insist on pissing off all your faithful customers by teasing us with a notion that one of our favorite cars is coming back, hype it up for weeks, then show us this. Didn’t y’all learn anything with the Charger back in 06? This is a Neon, just like the 06 Charger was an Intrepid. You can’t just take a new car, throw an old name on it and expect us to automatically like it. I can honestly say, if I do buy one I will be buying an old set of Neon emblems and installing them in place of the Dart emblems. First Diamler, now Fiat.

might be a dumb question, but if you guys keep complaining about it not being “the old days” why do you keep coming back to the site? what was the last chrysler product you purchased?
the Dart is an amazing new possibility and shows that an alliance of Fiat and Chrysler has immense potential.
remember the dart was simply a compact car, not a muscle car, it came in 2 and 4 doors, and most sold with a slant 6, 273 or 318.

My complaint is not the lack of a V8 or the fact that it does not look like Mannix’ Dart. as awesome as that would have been, I think we all knew that would never happen.
My gripe is that there is nothing at all to separate it from the herd of other compacts. It is just boring.
My favorite ChryCo products are the ones that are distinctly American- cars like the Charger/300, the Challenger, the Durango and Ram trucks, the Jeeps. The 300 and Challenger are two of the best looking vehicles of the past 20 years, period.
What is wrong with looking like an “American” car? That was something to aspire to for a lot of imports. Success is not going to come from aping KIa or Toyota.
Obviously we can’t know all the internal politics of Fiat-Chrysler. I just hope this does not signal an era of rebadged Fiats.

I agree completely with Nasahr, why waste the name, I love Dodge autos always have, I now run a 2011, 2500 4 door 4×4. Love it, also a 06 Charger, love it, but you blew it wasting the Dart name on this ride, I’m sure it’s a great car but in NO way should it be called a Dart.

Guys, I understand where you are coming from, but lets face it the original Dodge Dart was created to be an inexpensive small car for the masses and it sold like hot cakes. It was never intended to be the ultimate creation that everyone drooled over. It was a cheap looking boxy car that people could afford and as chris mentioned the slant six was the most popular. This fits the mold perfectly for today’s standards only it looks better because it is a little rounded and has the Charger taillights. A dart is a little arrow looking thing that is pretty quick when you throw it at a dart board. This car really fits that image perfectly. Small, quick and “arrow dynamic.” Dodge should keep using names from the past to help sell cars. Why not? I am sorry, but the Dodge Dart was never a real head turner unless you put a 440 or HEMI in it. There is really no harm done here and most of the people who see it say they like it. Remember, it gets 40 mpg which is a lot better than the Caliber. By the way, it looks a lot better in person. Just my two cents and again I understand where you are coming from.

Personally I like the look of it so far, granted I’m paying more attention to the interior than the exterior of the car but I’m shopping for a new fuel efficient car this year or next. I’ve never owned a Dodge before and until the Dart was announced they didn’t even have anything in my possible price range much less something that I could afford to drive and not feel my wallet shrink with every mile. Dodge has made a nice looking car that looks to be fully featured and I’m kinda’ excited about it. Definitely more so than I am anything I’ve seen from Ford or Chevy so far. The only other small car I’ve seen that I like at all is the Mazda 3 since it drives well and doesn’t feel like a ride on mower could out pace it. I can’t wait for the local dealer to get a few Darts in so I can take it for a spin and see how I like it.

If Dodge wants to re-badge the Neon as a Dart so be it. My parents owned a ’63 dart. It was an econo vehicle. Of course inheriting the vehicle and replacing the slant 6 with an 8 is what made it performance-wise. It was fun but still an econobox. I own a 98 Neon RT with 378K miles and a 2005 SRT4 with 14K miles on it with full ACR.The 98 owes me nothing, still runs and looks great and gets 32 miles per gallon with a stick. Great commuter vehicle. The SRT4 is obviously different but an awesome perf ride and has collector value. The dumbest thing Dodge ever did was get rid of the Neon and bring in the Caliber that got less MPG than its predecessors. And then gas went through the roof. There was no entry market for youth. They cut the cord to future buyers at that point. Unfortunately old guys who remember Darts and may not even buy one do not sustain companies profitability. You need young buyers and the body styles like the Dart appeal to that segment. It’s like the Challenger. Its a stylist dream to a throwback era. Not a mass seller however. I will note however, if the Dart R/T with the 2.4 doesn’t get offered with a stick that will be a huge mistake. Thus far it does not look like it will however.

I think Dodge has done an outstanding job with the Dart and it should sell very well. I do hope they expand the line with a 2dr hatchback and an AWD turbo SRT model in the 2dr configuration.
